The original "digital preamp" for automotive audio, the mObridge DA1 is a proven design used in thousands of sound systems around the world. With the DA1, the OEM analog signal path is completely eliminated - the networked digital stream is converted to a SPDIF digital stream delivered over TOSLINK fiber-optic cable. Your TOSLINK-equipped gear gets exactly the bitstream signal carried over the OEM network! The intended use case for the DA1 is in advanced systems with a DSP component which uses a TOSLINK input and performs D/A conversion.

Compatibility includes MOST 25 vehicles from Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche (see "Compatibility" below for specific applications).

This module integrates directly into the MOST 25 infotainment network, retaining volume control, balance, treble, bass control, and phone call, telematics, and chime audio.

The DA1 also allows adjustment of the non-entertainment audio streams - such as phone, navigation, PDC and voice recognition - to allow setting of the desired levels and routings. The DA1 also bypasses buffering during calls to avoid delays - preventing call-quality issues.

* Audiophile components
* Clean, clear audio signals - without OEM processing
* Elimination of Automatic Noise Cancelling feedback (if present)
* Deletion of "fake exhaust" signal injection (if present)
* Great phone-call sound

NOTE: With the DA1, the factory amplifier will need to be removed from the infotainment system. It is recommended to keep the amplifier on hand for service technicians, in case they need to temporarily re-install it.

For a MOST 25 preamp with analog RCA outputs and internal D/A conversion, see the mObridge DA-G2 Standard. For a MOST 25 preamp with analog outputs, D/A conversion, and DSP tuning, see the mObridge DA-G2 Pro or the Zen Audio Zen25 for BMW. For a MOST 25 nine-channel amplifier with DSP tuning, see the Zen POWER9 MOST 25.

Additional Product Information

Details

The DA1 installs in place of the MOST 25 multichannel amplifier in compatible vehicles, and is compatible with DSP processors and DSP amplifiers with a Toslink SPDIF fiber-optic digital input. Devices with only analog RCA inputs are not compatible with direct-connection to the the DA1 - a processor with Toslink in is required to serve as a D/A converter.

Any Automatic Noise Cancelling systems are automatically disabled (if present), as is any "fake exhaust" note injected into the sound signal.

The DA1  provides pure, clean stereo audio - it eliminates all OEM crossover filters, fixed and dynamic EQ, phase manipulation, compression, etc. It is both a high-quality digital-to-analog converter and an audiophile analog preamp - the OEM analog signal path is eliminated. In home-audio terms, the DA1  is a digital gateway connected to the OEM infotainment system with the proprietary MOST 25 digital network. For more on networked preamps, see this Knowledgebase article.

NOTE: If the vehicle does not have a compatible MOST 25 sound package, the vehicle may be able to be recoded to support a MOST 25 amplifier (and hence a network preamp). In this case, the DA1 can be added to the  vehicle MOST loop with the addition of some cabling. The installer takes all responsibility for successful recoding of vehicles without a MOST 25 amplifier as original equipmentl

NOTE: The DA1 has only a Toslink output with left and right stereo channels. Front/rear fade controls are inoperative, and there is no control for subwoofer level.

NOTE: For maximum dynamic range, use a DSP device with its own volume control, use its volume conttrol, and leave the OEM volume control at maximum.

FAQs

How many channels does the mObridge DA1 have?

This network preamp has two stereo channels of digital output, SPDIF over Toslink fiber-optic. It requires a device with a Toslink input and D/A conversion (many DSP processors and DSP amplifiers fit this description, but amplifiers without DSP do not). For this reason, the OEM receiver's front/rear fader function is not supported.

Why no RCA out?

The DA1 is intended for high-fidelity systems which include DSP tuning, where a digital signal path can be supported all the way to the amplifier. For a preamp with analog RCA outputs, please see the DA-G2 Standard or Pro models.

What makes this preamp sound good?

This preamp doesn't change the sound, other than to apply volume control - so what you're hearing is the gear downstream which you connect to the DA1. For peak performance, use a DSP with an external volume control, and leave the OEM volume setting at maximum.
